SCUDD conference 2011

SCUDD and Theatre Studies at the University of Glasgow are pleased to announce:

The SCUDD 2011 Conference: Partnerships and Collaborations

15th -16th April 2011 at the University of Glasgow

The Conference will begin at 12.30 on Friday 15th April with registration and a buffet lunch. Over the course of the two days there will be four sessions, plus the AGM:

Welcome and Key Note Presentation – the opening session of the conference will be a key note presentation addressing the current climate of cuts to arts and humanities funding, both for arts organisations and for universities and students. The presentation will be followed by a facilitated Q&A session, which will provide a forum within which colleagues can discuss and debate the future of the arts and humanities, addressing such issues as the value of arts and humanities education (and Universities more generally), and the value of the arts and arts graduates both within and outside the creative industries.

Creative Partnerships and Collaboration – a panel of speakers will engage with the rewards and challenges of building partnerships between university departments and artists and arts/cultural organisations. Speakers will consider experiences of both formal structures/arrangements and looser forms of collaboration – models of partnership from teaching and learning to research, from the local to the international. How can we think creatively about these collaborative relationships in difficult times?

The Futures of Publishing – a panel of publishers will discuss the changing landscape of publishing and the implications and possibilities for Drama, Theatre and Performing Arts. Digitalisation and e-media are transforming the landscape of publishing; what are the opportunities and possibilities for writing about performance and the documentation of live arts? With fewer publishers commissioning scholarly monographs or launching new journals, how can we respond to the changing climate and opportunities in the academic market? What new business models are available? What do publishers want?

Research excellence – … what is it?… do we know it when we see it?…. how do we evaluate it?  Whilst offering colleagues an early opportunity to discuss the Research Excellence Framework (REF), the session will also consider what constitutes excellent research in our discipline, how we do research – both as individuals and in partnership and collaboration – and how we disseminate and share research findings with each other and more widely too.  Come with questions… but also come with good ideas, interesting examples and challenging experiences.

On Friday 15th there will be a drinks reception in The Anatomy Museum from 6.00-7.30pm, followed by a Conference dinner at The Arches* hosted by performance artist Adrian Howells at 8pm.

*Please note the conference dinner is payable for separately.

SCUDD’s annual AGM will conclude the Conference and will take place from 2-4pm on Saturday 16th.
